How does the tattoo removal treatment work?

The working principle of Q-switched nd:YAG laser is based on the fragmentation of tattoo ink through the selective absorption of two specific wavelengths, 1064 and 532nm, selected according to pigment colour. After the absorption of light, the ink particles are partially destroyed and reduced to smaller fragments.

Subsequently, the ink fragments undergo phagocytosis by macrophages (cells responsible for the removal of foreign particles) and are removed from the body through the lymphatic system.

How many treatments are needed to remove a tattoo?

The removal of a professional tattoo is usually a progressive process that requires a series of sessions, carried out with an interval of at least 6-8 weeks. Professional tattoos usually require 5-10 sessions to achieve a satisfactory result.

The factors that determine the number of applications required are the depth, colour, amount of ink and location of the tattoo. Usually amateur or superficial tattoos are removed in fewer sessions.
